NAVi · The Intelligence Layer
How do you coordinate a hundred million people?
It is the first question any serious reader asks of UnitedPeoples: how could a civic institution possibly reach a hundred million members — and coordinate them into real work — in the time UP allows itself? Goodwill and human effort alone cannot do it at that scale and speed. An intelligence layer can, and that is precisely the bet.
More than any other element of the design, NAVi is the gamechanger. Without it, a hundred-million-member network is an audience. With it, it is a workforce for an Age of Thriving.
Most AI serves one user. NAVi will serve the connections between millions.

NAVi is not a feature inside the UP HUB; it is the intelligence that will run through the whole platform. Most AI today is built for one person at a time — better search, better writing, better automation for whoever holds the device. NAVi is designed for a different kind of challenge: the connecting intelligence that makes coordination across millions of members and Projects possible at all — who should meet whom, which Circle fits, where a lesson learned in one place is needed in another, which stalled effort needs restarting today.
And it is a companion — on the member's side, never sold to advertisers. Every member will have NAVi from the moment they join: the same patient guide for the newest member in Nairobi as for the founding funder in The Hague, in their own language.
One companion, across a member's whole journey.
From the first curious question to a funded Project with a verified outcome — eight roles, one NAVi. Watch it work:
I've just heard
The front door
The first interaction a prospective member will have with UP — explaining what it is and is not, and what joining actually asks.
Illustrative — the designed member experience, from D-Day onward
Initiatives rarely fail. They stall.
One of NAVi's roles deserves special attention, because it is where ambitious efforts most often die. Projects rarely fail outright; far more often they stall — quietly, through inattention — and dissolve. NAVi is built to be unrelenting on exactly this: it will hold members, Circles and Projects to the commitments they have made, flag what is slipping, and re-engage the work before neglect can kill it.
Across millions of Projects, that persistence is not a convenience; it is what separates a system that reliably produces results from one that produces good intentions. It is also a built-in answer to the slow decay that has defeated almost every large voluntary effort before it.
Don't take our word for it. Ask NAVi.
NAVi v1 arrives at D-Day. What is on this page, now, is the working demonstration — real AI, grounded on UP's actual design, with the same brain, voice and face that will greet members. Type below, or talk to it out loud. Start with the question that matters most: how would you fit in UP? Ask why it exists, how it works, which Circles match what you care about, and what your first months would look like.

Private to you. Answers to you.
Built to amplify your judgement — never replace it.

NAVi is real AI in working demonstration — it can make mistakes, so check what matters.
NAVi is "it" — by deliberate choice.
One choice runs through the whole design, and it matters to anyone judging how seriously the institution takes AI. NAVi is software — accountable machinery, not a being with a will of its own — and members deserve clarity about what they are dealing with, especially when it helps with decisions about their lives, work and money. Accountability for NAVi's behaviour runs through the systems that build, govern and evaluate it — ultimately the foundation and an independent ethics board — not through NAVi itself. And the ethics standard NAVi will run on is open source — published for anyone to read — so its accountability can be inspected from outside the institution.
Four commitments worth naming
It is built for human connection, not for keeping you talking to it — where a peer, a mentor or the Circle would serve better, it sends the member there.
Authoritative on facts and process; questions of judgement and values go back to people.
Members set its voice, tone, language and manner — but member data belongs to the member and is never sold; privacy is built in; NAVi never pretends to be a person.
Memory and consent controlled by the member, enforced in the code itself — not promised in a policy that could drift.
It does not vote, govern or rule. It never pretends to be a person, and it sends questions of judgement back to people.
The decisions stay with people — NAVi makes the coordination possible.
Nine months after first cheque: live, together.
D-Day is the smallest working whole — the first three GlobalCircles, UP HUB v1 and NAVi v1, live together, planned for the Peace Palace. NAVi launches with its guide and coaching roles working from day one, and deepens from there: the network intelligence, the momentum-keeping, the finance help, each growing with the platform it serves. The demonstration you just talked to is evidence the design already stands up.
